The lay back and take it easy approach!

Blog #11

I left school after taking my (GCE) General Certificate of Education O-levels (Ordinary Level), and as many know without one qualification.
None of my brothers got less than five, so what does that tell you? On one hand I'm proud for getting on in life without them, but on the other I realize what a complete idiot I must have been.

It wasn't a question that I doubted my ability, but it is this scenario that can be called, "The lay back and take it easy approach!" It just doesn't compute; but as you may or may not know I used to avoid paying attention, never trying homework, and last but not least couldn't be bothered to make the effort to use my skills and diverse abilities. Do you just happen to know anyone like this?

Since 1988 it is called GCSE General Certificate of Secondary Education, but according to US Education Advisory Service it has no official equivalences. As far as they are concerned most UK and US educators agree that a US high school diploma (without AP courses) can be roughly compared to five GCSE passes at grade C and above. Nice!

Then the British Council say an O-level is a single-subject exam taken upon completion of two years of study at the age of 16 (age at US 10th grade). Students take anywhere between 5-10 subjects, which, if passed, are generally considered equivalent to a US high school diploma. Furthermore it goes on to say A-levels Exams taken by English, Northern Irish and Welsh students in order to gain entrance to UK university is similar to Advanced Placement (AP) tests in the USA. So for those of you remotely interested in these facts read on.

I'm not trying to convince anyone that I wouldn't give my right arm to have no responsibilities, maintain the "Status Quo" throughout life, and for that matter go into full retirement early. However, my situation shouldn't be important to you. And anyway I'm seeking achievement, which to me is a state of mind where I am contributing on my life's mission, and seeing others prosper.

Deep down it is for me and only me; I'm self, self, self, but I've grown up enough to know if you want anything worth having in life then a commitment needs to be made. I vow that my contribution to help those students in need gets my attention. If I can help I will. I urge the student population to commit to their future.

Personally, I couldn't care a less about anyone who doesn't care about this. They can take a ride in my humble opinion. It may seem crazy to make such a bold statement, but if that's what it takes to get those lazy students to wake up then so be it!

If you are not one of the bunkers, bullies, lazy good for nothing drop out types then make sure every high school student is aware that Students Ratings exist for a good reason.
