Coming home party?
Blog #19
Excited to be back in Miami Carl briefly introduces his new blog!
I'm back from England and poised with a problem; what an earth am I going to do to advance my life? It's all very well saying, "it's easy for you, success must come easy!" That is so untrue. No one gave me anything for nothing. Everything I've achieved comes down to my consistent efforts!
When I was young and starting my adult life, or in other words working career, I had few responsibilities. I was confused about what I was doing just like many youngsters in a similar predicament, but I was cool because I only had to look after myself; and that was easy. I paid my parents a small portion of my monthly salary to help towards bills. That seemed fair! I worked seven hours flextime five days a week, cycling to and from work thirteen miles each way, and was full of energy. To be straight forward I did it because it was expected of me, and let me say this, "I had cash in my pocket, could buy an LP (large record), and bought fashionable Italian clothing, which highlighted my good looks. Well, at least at the time, according to my mum I used to think I was Narcissus!"
In my case I chose to work full time at a large London insurance company, then known as Pearl Assurance, and then I'd cycle home to get ready for my evening job at the local pub, The Greyhound Inn in front of Carshalton ponds. I kept myself busy, didn't have time to spend all my earnings while saving to buy my first home when I reached twenty years old. Nowadays that is unheard of because so much has changed such as exorbitant property prices, unemployment, excessive competition, and students are expected to have higher qualifications to get jobs in the first place. I can understand why so many students give up, drop out, can't be bothered to excel, get bored, but the truth is they fear life and what will be and that is alright!
Sometimes it makes sense to take time out to ponder over your individual situation and really reflect on where you want to be in say ten years from now? What is it that stimulates you? What can you do to make your desires become reality? I think the main ingredient is believe in yourself. Once you truly believe in yourself you can take action to provide the stimulus to reach your objectives. There are no guarantees, but taking stock of your position and working towards your goals creates a result. It might not be exactly the result you want to achieve, but come on you are on the right track!
Imagine bragging about taking a two week vacation because you are excited about going away next month during your school-break or company leave. It's exciting having time for yourself, to do things you haven't done for a long time. Isn't it cool? And then your friend says, "Where are you going?" You look at him or her and say, "I don't know I haven't thought about that!"
Everyone needs direction. If we live in a cloud we will never arrive at the place we want to get to. It's like walking around in a circle without an end. We just keep going without any real motivation, content with getting by, but eventually depressed because we have no destination!
Life is too short to simply choose the easy way that ultimately turns into the difficult life solution. Try to help yourself and take the right route; study hard now to reap the benefits later!
