Why are we like we are?

Blog #29

Today's blog composed by Carl concentrates on helping students unravel the mystery of understanding attitude values and how to use them to ones advantage:

Sometimes we make decisions based upon sheer emotions, or in other words we tend to react according to our understanding of values that we have learned from our parents, or influences around us.

My parents tended to encourage my three brothers and me to play in the 100 feet garden behind our suburban semi-detached house after primary school hours, up until I became eleven years of age when I began high school. Then mum and dad would allow me to grow up and go out alone to friends homes, play in the park unaccompanied, and generally gave me the responsibility to take charge of my destiny while out and about.

Those years were stepping stones that encouraged me to become streetwise, but I always respected the time schedule and conditions imposed upon me. My father’s army training would keep me in sync with his philosophy on order, and when I look back I realize his methods had tremendous impact when I took on my own business projects as I got older.

We all do things for a reason, we all have different issues to deal with; we often find it difficult to understand others.  As students we are encouraged to take on tasks that develop us, and yes it’s true; influences can affect the way we interpret them. Just like my daughter this morning when she entered the kitchen insulting the rest of the family although principally her grandma, my wife's mother.

Everyone’s got issues, problems that mount up and often are thrown on the table in the middle of something. Someone might have their reason for an outburst, but at what expense, and should others be influenced into the equation. As a father, it’s my obligation to help her overcome her personal issues by trying to understand why she got so intense in the first place!

The bottom line is many students don’t clearly understand how to make the most of their lives, and one of the reasons is because they allow others to influence them. So what should they do to enhance the learning experience? In my humble opinion they should learn as much as possible about life skills now, suck in general knowledge, update with current trends, keep stored subject matter and information that helps progress readily available, and grow consistently throughout school life.

This would make a major difference to productivity and consequently improve the learning curve to new heights. We should not allow negative forces to bring us down or be influenced by those who don’t care about themselves and their future.

If there is one thing that could make a real difference to improved studies it would be choosing positive friends who collectively want to contribute to making the world a better place!
